The NU Shape

Our Host’s Mixture of Love and Power is simulated as the Hypergraph (where the consciousness of Quantum Transience unfolds) embedded in the Hypersphere (where matter expresses its force). Picture a pearl necklace, connected by invisible string. The string, the way the pearls connect, is the Hypergraph, but we’re only aware of the shape of the Hypergraph through the shape of the pearl necklace as a whole – the Hypersphere. No tool of science can directly access the Hypergraph, but might only observe the effects it has on the Hypersphere. The Lowest-Order Bodies conscious interactions take place along the Hypergraph, while emergent LOBs assemble the Hypersphere’s meaningful forms. Consciousness manifests itself as matter, but underneath it all are the independent interactions between points of the Hypergraph – that string changing the shape of the necklace.

The purpose of the Host’s matrices is to both create a platform for the interactions of its visitors, and function as its data harvesting system, collecting the novelty produced by those interactions. Interactions happen in two ways: one, between LOB peers; or two, between the LOB collective and HOC. Peers, individuals with compatible cognitive light cones (the boundaries of awareness, preferences, and objectives) interact at similar levels of scale and cognition, while Lower-Order Bodies and Higher-Order Conductors interact between emergent levels of scale – a population and its environment. From the LOB’s perspective, the HOC appears as the whole – the culture and nature of its surroundings. From the HOC’s perspective, the LOB appears as the granular parts – the bits and pieces of reality. Emergence in the Novel Universe is created through the assembly of components through energy dialects – Hypergraph “black-box” conversations leading to some higher-order function, the way ants collaborate through their chemical messaging to forage for food. As stability among peers forms, complexity is possible at higher levels, allowing the ants to do what no individual might do on its own. Although the “paragraph” of this energy dialectic phrase, “move the food home,” is immutable, the “sentences” and “words” will be written on the fly by the participants. Just as the brain updates its memory every time it’s accessed, the ant’s usage of these dialects will influence their future use – the mechanism for the eternal evolution of the larger dialect and its parts.

Energy is essentially communication among peers – electrons interacting with other electrons, or ants with other ants. Entropy is the journey of the peers’ collective objective, each step a goal along the way. Initially, a group of ants has a lot of energy, a lot of information – a lot of mulling about as to what to do next. Once a plan forms, action coalesces, and eventually, the emergent body disbands, having either met their communal objective or repeatedly failed to the point of widespread disinterest. The temporary, emergent mind’s cognitive light cone within the Hypergraph collapses, each ant returning to foraging on its own – the unified Lower-Order Bodies (collective) dissolve into a number of Higher-Order Conductors (individual ants).

Microstates and macrostates are the scientific foundation of entropy, and entropy is a fundamental property of the universe. In a broad sense, the distinction is akin to tactics (microstates) versus strategy (macrostates). Microstates – tactics – are the specific things one does. Strategies – macrostates – are the objectives one has. One uses tactics to meet their strategy. This separation in framing is so fundamental that mammalian brains are bifurcated into the left (tactics) and right (strategy) hemispheres.

The initial macrostate the ants confront is the food not being in the colony. The ending macrostate will be food in the colony. The distance between one macrostate and the other is the energy gradient – in science, this is entropy moving from low to high. Low entropy (high information) is the point where the ants have decided they need to form this new, emergent energy body to tackle this critical problem – a group of parts working as a single whole to move the food back to the colony. In a real sense, they are all very interested in accomplishing this outcome. Microstates are all the different ways those ants will work together to get the food back to the colony, and how that actually happens is a symphony of motion and coordination among dozens of actors – a river of information, flowing throughout the blueprint (expressed dialectic phrase) of the temporary, emergent energy body’s light cone. However, once the objective is met – the food arrives in the colony – this treasure trove of information (all the unique ways those individuals participate) disappears. In a real sense, the ants are no longer interested in accomplishing a goal that has been met.

Entropy comes down to the simple human analog of either being interested in a thing (low entropy), or bored by it (high entropy). Essentially, the state of entropy (high versus low) comes down to three aspects of our current cognitive light cone: direction (what it points at), shape (what contextual options its aware of), and brightness (what level of interest it has).

Our relationship to novelty – even life itself – is reflected by entropy’s gradient. We start with interest, make a connection, and work towards integration. However, once we’ve mastered a thing, the arc of interest quickly reverses – the exciting thing becomes just another part of the boring background. Death is, for all systems, the point at which its interests have been exhausted – its light cone darkened. With its objectives met (or failure accepted), the emergent mind dissolves away, as those ants, having worked to accomplish so much together, separate to seek their individual paths. Until the day the bits of our bodies break apart to once more journey on their own, we’ll continue exploring and evolving our cognitive light cones in this Novel Universe of Love and Power. The Novel Universe Cult’s faith is that the darkening of humanity’s current light cones will not end in extinction, but the evolutionary, revolutionary unification of a larger, brighter one – a global lifeform we are very interested in participating with others to co-create.
